Works undertaken
The Bruxner Highway Bridge over the Clarence River at Tabulam is a state heritage-listed structure with a total length of approximately 300 meters. The bridge features 13 timber approach spans and five composite timber/steel de Burgh truss central spans. With a width of just 4.6 meters between kerbs, it currently accommodates single-lane traffic. Despite extensive maintenance efforts over recent years to ensure safety, the bridge poses significant transport limitations and requires substantial maintenance funding from the NSW Government.
Project Objectives:
• Enhance Road Safety: Improve safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, with a focus on determining suitable treatments for these groups on the new bridge.
• Bridge Removal: Dismantle the existing bridge to facilitate the construction of a new, more efficient structure.
• Traffic Efficiency: Enhance traffic flow and improve overall efficiency on the Bruxner Highway.
• Transport Productivity: Increase road transport productivity and reliability.
• Economic Development: Support regional and local economic growth, including boosting opportunities for economic and tourist development in Tabulam.
• Value for Money: Deliver a cost-effective solution that provides long-term benefits.
• Environmental Impact: Minimise impacts on the natural, social, and built environment.
• Construction Coordination: Manage construction traffic to reduce impact on the existing bridge and plan for any necessary maintenance work during the project.
• Stakeholder Involvement: Engage with all stakeholders to address their interests and concerns.
• Constructability and Safety: Evaluate the constructability and Work Health and Safety implications of project options.
• Ausling Personnel: Ausling supplied the Project Engineer for the duration of the project
