Client: Roads & Maritime Services
Length: 2.1 km
Duration: April 2018 to September 2021
Value: $134 million
Contract type: GC21
Works undertaken
The Bolivia Hill project addressed critical safety concerns on a challenging stretch of road by enhancing alignment to reduce crash rates. This significant infrastructure improvement involved the construction of a 320-meter-long cast insitu balanced cantilever box girder bridge, which is the second longest of its kind in New South Wales. The new bridge effectively removed hazardous curves and improved both road approaches and overall alignment, while carefully considering the harsh environmental conditions and the cultural significance of the area.
Project Highlights:
• Bridge Construction: A 320-meter-long cast insitu balanced cantilever box girder bridge, the second longest of its type in NSW, was introduced to replace dangerous curves.
• Alignment Improvements: The new bridge improved road alignment and approach, contributing to enhanced safety and traffic flow.
• Environmental and Cultural Considerations: The project carefully addressed the harsh environmental conditions and preserved the cultural significance of the area as well as protecting the vulnerable Bolivia Hill Wattle.
Ausling’s Role:
• Personnel: Contract Manager, Project Engineer and a Surveillance Officer to oversee and manage the project
