The Northern Road upgrade is a major infrastructure project extending approximately 11.3 kilometres from Peter Brock Drive in Oran Park to Mersey Road in Bringelly. This upgrade includes the construction of an interchange at the intersection of The Northern Road and Bringelly Road. Additionally, the second stage of the Bringelly Road upgrade covers around 4.3 kilometres from King Street in Rossmore to The Northern Road in Bringelly. This project is designed to enhance traffic flow, safety, and connectivity in the region.
Project Highlights:
Lane Configuration: Two lanes in each direction, with a four-meter wide shoulder and a central median that accommodates future widening to six lanes if needed.
Grade-Separated Interchange: Construction of an underpass at Bringelly Road, located east of Bringelly Village shops, and improvements at the Bringelly Road/Greendale Road intersection.
Speed Limit: The road will have a designated speed limit of 80 km/h.
Pedestrian/Cyclist Path: A three-meter wide shared path on the eastern side of the road for pedestrians and cyclists.
Traffic Management: Designated turning lanes, bicycle and pedestrian crossing provisions at traffic lights, and bus priority lanes with indented bus bays.
Future Facilities: Temporary U-turn facilities at some future precinct link roads.
Intersection Upgrades: Nine intersections will be upgraded with new traffic lights.
Bridge Replacements: Replacement of the existing bridge over Thompson Creek for southbound traffic and construction of a new bridge for northbound traffic.
Ausling Involvement: Provision of two structures surveillance officers to support the project.
