Singleton Bypass

Project Overview

Client: Transport for New South Wales
Length: 8 km
Duration: August 2024 to expected late 2026
Value: $700 million
Contract type: Design and construct

Works to be undertaken

The Singleton Bypass project involves constructing an 8-kilometre stretch of new highway with a single lane in each direction, designed to improve traffic flow, reduce travel times, and enhance safety in Singleton. The bypass will save motorists approximately six minutes of travel time, avoid up to five sets of traffic lights, and remove around 15,000 vehicles (including heavy trucks) from the town centre daily.

Key benefits of the project:

• 8 km of new highway with a single lane in each direction.

• Southern connection bridge over the floodplain.

• A long bridge over the Main North Railway Line, Doughboy Hollow, Hunter River floodplain, Army Camp Road, and Putty Road.

• Putty Road Connection with northbound and southbound entry and exit ramps.

• Bridges over the Rose Point Floodway, Hunter River, and the existing highway at Gowrie Gates.

• A southbound entry ramp and northbound exit ramp at Gowrie Gates, connecting to the New England Highway via a new roundabout at Maison Dieu Road.

• A northbound climbing lane between Gowrie Gates and the northern connection.

• Magpie Street connection, providing access to the nearby industrial area with off ramps for both directions of traffic and southbound on ramp.
